The Project

The Automated Biodegradation Testbed (ABT) was designed to support an on campus research facility, BEEM LAB. BEEM lab (among other things) is developing biodegradable electronics for agricultural use. By populating a field with sensors that measure pH and moisture content, industrial farms can increase yields while decreasing water and fertilizer use.

Testing the biodegradability of these sensors is traditionally time consuming and requires constant oversight. In order to accelerate BEEM labs research, our team was tasked with eliminating this bottleneck.

The ABT was designed to run autonomously for 7 days at a time, refreshing the enzyme and maintaining it at a temperature that ensures quick degradation.


How it Works


My Role

I was the CAD and Manufacturing Engineer. All CAD was done wiht SolidWorks. We made ~50 custom parts for the system.
